Oreland Joe“Healers and Medicine People”

August 19th - 29th
Palace Avenue

"My Paternal Grandfather who was full-blooded Capote/Moache Ute always sat on the front porch of our Shiprock trailer home.  He would sing sundance and Bear dance songs into the evening.  Grandpa was in his eighties and blind as he could still sing and dance like a young man.  In his time, he was a Sundancer, Traditional dancer, and Beardancer.  As a youngster of 6 years old I looked forward to evening stories and songs.  This was my upbringing until the passed on at the wise age of eighty four.  The solid foundation of song and dance continues to sustain my identity  everyday of my life.  My father and Grandfathers example continue to influence my drive to retain and record our history and culture through the Creative mediums of Sculpture, Paintings, music and film."  ~Oreland Joe

Opening: Friday August 19th, 5-7pm
